June 5th - June 28th 2021
We are pleased to announce the return of our most popular tour through America’s South in June 2021.
To many the deep south of the US is a place of mystery and intrigue so is often bypassed by regular travellers because it’s off the usual “highlight’ routes offered by most tour operators. From the wonderful cuisine to the unrivalled hospitality, the South offers experiences that are simply unattainable anywhere else in the world. We collect our luxury cars from the tour park capital of the world, Orlando in Florida, then wind our way across the deep south to New Orleans. Over the next 24 days we’ll experience the misty bayous of Louisiana, Natchez with its antebellum mansions, the Civil War history of Vicksburg and the Mississippi river towns of Memphis and the country music capital of Nashville.
We visit the fabulous Biltmore Estate Asheville in the Smoky Mountains and the centuries old architecture and southern charm of the coastal cities of Charleston and Savannah. America’s first city of St Augustine offers a backdrop of culture and a taste of the south that few will ever forget and the tour is packed with outstanding excursions and memorable dining.
In Memphis we join The American Queen for a 9 day cruise down the Mississippi to New Orleans. The largest steamboat ever built, the grand American Queen is a gracious and elegant triumph of American ingenuity. Although filled with today’s modern amenities, her rooms and accommodations display all the opulence of the American Victorian era. Glistening woodwork, fresh flowers and antiques adorn her interior spaces. Outside, lacy filigree evokes memories of the many stately riverboats that preceded her and so inspired her designers.
Combining the best of the old and the new, this beautiful lady of the river epitomizes the grace and grandeur that has made River Cruising a cherished American tradition for more than two centuries. The American Queen is the largest, most opulent riverboat in the world and our Promenade Deck Superior cabin is complete with a private balcony. On board we will experience regionally inspired fine dining with complimentary wine and beer with dinner, Broadway-caliber entertainment and guided shore excursions.
The Lower Mississippi River is the river of legends. A river of centuries-old shaded oak trees, elegant Antebellum plantations, cotton fields and Civil War memorials. River cruising through the rich history and cultural diversity of the Old South is like taking a step back in time. Sugar cane is still grown just as it was a century ago and lovingly restored mansions grace the Great River Road. From the sidewalk cafes and jazz clubs of New Orleans’ French Quarter to the barbecue hotspots and soulful blues of Memphis and everywhere in between, the Lower Mississippi region is a beautiful celebration of modern day attractions and timeless southern traditions.
We’ll explore the land of bawdy blues and Southern belles and showcase the diversity and drama of the Lower Mississippi River. The bayous and woodlands along the shore create dramatic landscapes that are virtually unchanged since the days of the French fur traders. Gracious towns with palatial mansions and tree-lined streets abound. History is everywhere - in silent Civil War cemeteries and virtually everywhere you turn in Memphis, best known for jazz, barbecue, and of course The King of Rock and Roll and his home at Graceland.
After disembarking at New Orleans we collect our cars and drive north to Lafayette through the backroads of Louisiana to dine at one of Louisiana’s premier cajan restaurants. The following day we take that Atchafalaya Experience, the country’s best swamp tour then work our way south for two nights in New Orleans and or tour finale.
